I think the failure to retain the new commanders is down to the lack of a meaningful tie-in with the new movie. All the game offered was the farthier horse, which wasn't a central element of the movie, didn't do much, was hard to unlock for brand new commanders, and required too much UC. It was quite simply a terrible idea.
The game needs to offer more to newer members. The lengthy times for upgrades undermines enthusiasm for the game when people are just starting out. There are other games, with a shorter initial advancement curve. Also, the unlocks are too hard for non-hardcore players to achieve.
Once again, I will compare this game to Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes by EA, which I also play. They got new characters in quickly, have a lot for new players to do, and a bigger picture for players to work towards.
Plus, and I cannot emphasise this enough, EA clearly values its customers.
1) When there are server problems, or update problems, they give ALL players crystals or shards (their equivalent of frags), acknowledge the problem and apologise.
2) They interact with players on their own forum
3) Respond to players concerns quickly
In this game, genuine player concerns go unacknowledged and unaddressed for months at a time.
I think this is a great shame. This is a great game, with a strong following, and a great community. Disney are missing real opportunities here.
I thought the EP system that the devs have recently been experimenting with was a much better way to unlock and upgrade units. It's a shame the units themselves were so poor.
The good news is that the devs are at least trying to make improvements, although I fear that the recent EP event was intended to see how little they could give us in return for us playing. That's the wrong way to go about it in my view.
I do like that the devs are trying though.
I have seen almost ever one with lvl 8 and 9 leave the game for the reasons you stated, I might go further to add, every one I know who played said the armory was the big problem, its not a bad idea, but chasing frags for the units that are the most usfull is almost vain.
I am trying to honestly justify why I should play this game. I love the game, I really do. But when you get a sample for a unit that is at your headquarter and you unlock it at Lvl 1 maybe lvl 2 when you are a 6 or a 7 and your opponents are lvl 8,9 and 10 it's completely useless. And it will takes weeks before you see it rotated in planetary conflicts again. My issues is with last naval conflict and this last one with the astromech, no mater how hard , I could not get into the UC. I was a lvl 6 and I was up against 9 and 10 in pvp, Its like I hit a brick wall.
I tried ever combination of loadouts and nothing but faceplants, its like trying to pick numbers for the power ball lottery, And when I addressed the issues with Disney suport, their reply was basically, shut up and buy some crystals to upgrade your base quicker.
Every one I know that recently played the game and quit said they where burned out with grinding for worthless units and felt like Disney was just scamming them for money. I feel like my base is just cannon fodder for High level rebels bases.
I still like the game, and hope Disney will make it right.
